General Comments

Where to start....I only went to him because most other psychiatrists aren't taking new patients (that my insurance will cover), and he was (RED FLAG)...the office was fine and it was easy to get an appointment, and he spent enough time with me and diagnosed me just fine. But was generally unwilling to accept/admit that antidepressants cause weight gain. He kept suggesting that I was eating more than I think, and AFTER I told him that I struggle with body issues and eating disorder thought patterns, had the gall to suggest keeping track of calories. Really? Even my therapist thought that was really out of touch. Scoffed at the ability of CBT to manage my condition. I guess to this psychiatrist, meds are the only answer. Came across as very insensitive and nonchalant, truly uncaring. Came off the antidepressant (despite his general "good luck" attitude towards that---note he saw no need for a follow-up once I said I didn't want meds), and have been losing weight since then, and managing psych issues just fine with a good therapist. I would not go back to him or recommend him. Pity, because the office was nice.

He is very strange. Rather than explaining his prescription advise, he makes assertions and expects you to accept them without question.

Negative Comments

Dr. Pushkin is insensitive. I feel he doesn't listen very well, and doesn't appear to really care. Though I was diagnosed appropriately, his bedside manner is disappointing. I'd like to find a new psychiatrist, but from what I hear most of them are jerks.

I am a retired psychotherapist and I found Dr Pushkin to be very intuitive, caring, and accurate with his dx & rx.

The psychologists in this office recommend that a patient be put on medicine on the first visit. They do not promote other ways to deal with issues.
