General Comments

During my recent consultation with Dr. Bonar, I was deeply impressed with her intellect, presence, and thoughtful and thorough approach. Despite having graduated in the top five percent of her class at Yale Medical School (!!), Dr. Bonar was uncommonly grounded, gracious, and generous among physicians--not to mention surgeons. As a psychotherapist, I greatly appreciated Dr. Bonar's stance of asking probing questions, then listening attentively to my answers. In fact, I have rarely felt so heard and attended to within the medical community! Women employed in male-dominated professions face myriad additional hurdles, leading some to become (understandably) hardened. Not so Dr. Bonar, whose genuine empathy and compassion were palpable! I likewise resonated with Dr. Bonar's prudent, commonsense medical approach, in considering alternatives to surgery as a first resort. My situation is complex, as I appear to have diffuse nerve damage within my foot. I thus am beginning physical therapy via Dr. Bonar's referral, while simultaneously interviewing several other foot surgeons--a choice that Dr. Bonar wholly respected! While I have not yet made a final treatment decision, I feel an unusual sense of trust in Dr. Bonar's expertise. Dr. Bonar's office staff (radiologist technician Shannon and office manager Johnia) also were most caring and competent at their respective positions. In brief, while Dr. Bonar's office runs like a proverbial well-oiled machine, their treatment of me was anything but mechanical.

I saw Dr. Bonar for plantar fasciitis. I wore a boot for 6 weeks, but the condition did not improve. Although I informed her about the arthitis in my ankle she place my foot in a lower leg cast for 8 weeks. The plantar fasciitis was improved after 8 weeks, but my ankle was nearly fused afterward. It swells more than ever and I have increased pain in the ankle. Since the cast prevented any daily mobility, I'm fairly certain that it is the cause of my ankle pain and swelling.

Positive Comments

Office staff was good.

Negative Comments

Medical treatment caused other ankle issues.

General Comments

Overall it was an odd experience.

Go to KU or somewhere else for your ankle fusion.

She should never be doing ankle fusions in surgery centers and allowing patients to leave after 45 minutes in recovery. She read my CT scan wrong. She didn't address my whole foot. She should have referred me to a surgeon who had more experience working with an ankle like mine.

Positive Comments

Nice office staff.

Negative Comments

Botched ankle fusion. Find a surgeon who really has the record of specialization you need.

General Comments

Really bad experience.

I would rate her poor and do not recommend her.

Negative Comments

Staff was not friendly. xray assistant smelled unwashed. Dr. did not explain xray or show real concern. She immediately referred to only one source for orthotics. That source was unprofessional and did not inform or educate me about orthotic. It seemed to be an assembly line and an overpriced racket. Does she get a kick back from orthotic make called Foot Works? Made me wonder. They were awful.

General Comments

I was completely unsatisfied with the care I got in her office. A week later I asked for my xray and the charged me 10 dollars just to make a paper copy. I would not recommed Dr. Bonnar or her buddy at Foot Works.
