Total knee replacement is a surgical procedure were the worn or damaged parts of the knee are removed and artificial components are implanted. The procedure is done by removing the end of the femur and the top of the tibia often as well as the knee cap (patella). Once this is accomplished the artificial components are then cemented into place. This procedure is performed usually on people over the age of 55 years old.
