Mortality rate - Coronary Bypass Procedures (without Cardiac Catheterization)
A procedure, also known as coronary artery bypass graft (CABG), that creates new routes for the blood to detour constricted or blocked sections of one or more arteries feeding the heart. This procedure permits increased blood flow for the delivery of oxygen and nutrients to the heart muscle. A vein, usually from the patient's leg or inner chest wall, is grafted to produce the bypass. This data has been risk adjusted. Risk adjustment is a process of accounting for differences in patient population based on many parameters such as age, sex, severity of illness, risk of mortality, and other attributes. Risk adjustment allows us to fairly compare hospitals across a wide range of healthcare measures. This measure of quality should be used in conjunction with other measures to gain a more complete understanding of the quality picture. |
